ZAM_BlueFire_coverlgBlue Fire is now available for Amazon Kindle HERE.

Blue Fire is another sensational treat by a truly captivating artist.  The story leaps from the pages like a spark from a fire.  There is a magical quality to the love story that makes it even more fascinating to read.  Z.A.  Maxfield has been creating truly beautiful love stories and Blue Fire is no different.  This is an author to watch out for.  I am definitely looking forward to whatever Z.A. has in store for us next.

Terrific Review For Notturno

2009
10.20

NotturnoroughI love a tough but fair reviewer who takes on a book that maybe doesn’t float their boat all the way to paradise and still gives it honest praise if it deserves it and remains kind when it’s not their cup of tea. I got a terrific and thoughtful review of Notturno by Val Kovalin, at Obsidian bookshelf. I can honestly relate to understanding what a book might be worth to a different reader, based on quality of writing and subject matter, and still not love the subject matter of that book myself. Since Obsidian doesn’t allow reproduction in whole or in part of their reviews I’ll link it here, without quoting from it. But I’ll paraphrase and say it said my writing style was very nice. ;-)

I’m going to have to start reading the vampire books I’m getting compared to. Vampire stories come from a rather large pool, and I guess we’re bound to overlap sometimes. My use of a Volvo, for example, was cited by one reader as an example of how Twilight has made it’s mark on the genre, except I didn’t read Twilight until long after I’d written this book. (But everyone knows that no self respecting immortal person needs the safest car on the market… DUH.)

To be fair, I’ve read a few vampire books. I LOVE Sookie Stackhouse, and I’m afraid Charlaine Harris has probably made more than a small dent in how I perceive vampires. I just recently started watching True Blood, and can I say that if the Dead series has made a dent then Eric has just punched a hole in me? WOW! What a cutie. I don’t like vampires who take themselves too seriously. I don’t really like tragic vampires, that’s why in my story Adin, my protagonist, uses gentle ribbing to get his lover Donte, the vampire to lighten up. I like the idea of an implacable, mysterious, and maybe just a little puffed up vampire being tumbled like a rock against an unpredictable human who invariably smooths off the sharper edges and wears him down a little at the same time.

I’m working on the sequel to this, and like all good sequels, it’s going to do a little rearranging. Maybe even turn our fun couple on its head a little, because what’s the point of rewriting the same book twice?

Anyway, thanks so much, Val and Obsidian Bookshelf for giving the book a read and high marks. You can read the rest of the review, HERE.

Blue Fire

I got a terrific review for my novella Blue Fire from Joyfully Reviewed in which the reviewer Shayna said this:

Blue Fire is, quite simply, a gorgeous book.  I smiled, I sighed, my heart broke and was put back together all in one sitting.  One read has not been enough; I keep returning to Blue Fire over and over again to enjoy Jared and Adam’s story.  Ms. Maxfield is an amazingly gifted writer whose work is as enticing as the characters she creates.  I Joyfully, enthusiastically, Recommend Blue Fire!

I really enjoyed writing this story, which came out from Loose Id in July. You can read more about it, and find it in most ebook formats HERE.

Finally, ePistols is officially GAY.

2009
10.16

ePistols_prWhich is something I’m a little conflicted about. I don’t believe that there should actually be a “gay ghetto” in the romance department of your bookstore. In fact, my entire reason for writing romance with same sex couples has to do with the basic principle that people love who they love. And that’s cool.

There’s no reason to suggest that my books shouldn’t be snuggled right up against all the rest of those romance novel bad boys to stand and fall on their own merits. But say you go internet shopping with the idea in mind that you want to read a gay romance novel, and you don’t know who I am yet, but you read my buddy M. Jules Aedin, say, or Lex Valentine, or Ethan Day or Carol Lynne, to name a few and you want others sorta kinda like them, in that you want your men to find love with other men… well. It’s handy to have my novel in the category genre, romance, gay. That’s all.

And to begin with, when ePistols at Dawn landed at Amazon, it was categorized as simply romance. So unless you knew what you were looking for you weren’t likely to fall over it. But its designation has officially been changed to gay, and I’m not unhappy about that. Because when you’re at the store, and your eye can be caught by it’s attractive, edgy cover, which will maybe draw you in to pick it up and check out the blurb, it’s harder to get noticed on Amazon. And it’s even worse, for some inexplicable reason, at Tower Books online, where all my books are categorized under Christian, biblical. (This was rather a surprise, especially when I realized I was doing pretty well on the bestseller list in that category.)

Even more exciting, though, is the news that ePistols got a terrific review from Two Lips Reviews where Angelina, the reviewer says,

ePistols At Dawn has firmly put Z.A. Maxfield on my list of authors to look for!”

Physical Therapy

2009
09.07

ZM_PhysicalTherapy_coversmI just noticed for the first time that Physical Therapy, the second in my St. Nacho’s series has been added as a Kindle book at Amazon. Tina at Two Lips Reviews just gave me a terrific review, saying:

Z. A. Maxfield has created wonderful characters populating a good tale. I look forward to reading more of her and discovering her characters.

(You can read the rest of her review HERE)

And Bobby at the BookWenches had a lot of really nice things to say Here, including this really nice summary:

Deep emotion, including sadness, love, pain, hope and even the occasional peek of charming humor characterize Physical Therapy. All tangle together in a colorful and addictive whole. I was snared by this story from the first sentence and became so involved in the plot that I couldn’t put it down; I read it in one evening, enjoying every sentence. By the time I turned the final page, I had developed a true fondness for both the characters and the town of St. Nacho’s, and I was sorry to see the story end. There is little doubt in my mind why so many people are fans of Ms. Maxfield’s writing: she is extremely talented, and her stories deliver a pleasing combination of excellent characterization, real and heartfelt emotion, and entertaining narrative. Bravo.

Both the St. Nacho’s books are particular favorites, the characters are close to my heart as well as my imaginary town, Santo Ignacio, or St. Nacho’s for short, and you now buy it for your Kindle, Here:

I Am Blogging Today

I wrote a blog post about how much fun it is to be a genre fiction writer in this day and age of niche market publishing, so for all of you who have been thinking, Hmmm. What I really want is a Big Beautiful Woman who falls in love with a marmoset shapeshifter-vampire-special-ops guy this is your time to Pah-Tay. I’m also treating that blog like a suggestion box, so head on over there because I’m taking requests. You can read that HERE.

After My Big Fat Release Month in June I’m back to work, busily positioning myself to take over the world write more books. I’ve gotten a lot of really terriffic reviews, so many, in fact, since I released four books in a relatively short time, that if I came over here and put them up every time I got one you’d stop looking at this website. So for the sake of brevity, here goes.

Rainbow Reveiws was kind enough to review Blue Fire, Notturno, and ePistols recently, HERE.

Fallen Angel Reviews gave Physical Therapy 5 angels and a recommended read HERE, and ePistols at Dawn 5 Angels and a recommended read HERE.

The LOVELY Elisa Rolle just reviewed Blue Fire, HERE

Bookwenches posted a review of Blue Fire HERE in their August Reviews.

Sensual Ecataromance has reviewed  Notturno, HERE

Don’t forget there is still time to purchase Because of the Brave, the anthology I’m in with (squee) Josh Lanyon and Laura Baumbach from Aspen Moutain Press and have part of the proceeds go to the Servicemen’s Legal Defense Fund, which is helping to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, from Aspen Mountain Press, and you can do that HERE.

Also, as a reminder, I have a Yahoo Group, Z.A. Maxfield’s Cyber Cafe, and I’m pretty accessible there, and there are a lot of fun readers, some writers, and an editor who occasionally gets in on the fun, so come by there and give us Howdy Hello, HERE. I promise we don’t bite much unless you beg.
